It hit me today while going through some of my favorite blogs that I have GOT to resume blogging regularly. And let me tell you, it is not for lack of trying... every time I sit down to begin a post, one of two things happen. Either I fall asleep, or I decide to take a nap (yes, those are two very different things.)
Law school has essentially robbed me of any semblance of "free" time, so I take my sleep whenever I can get it. But I took the executive decision today that it will not rob me of blogging. Ironically, this decision comes into effect as I enter the final stretch of my first semester of law school... basically, when the going has gotten tough. Funny thing is? Somehow, that's when life happens for me.
OK, let me explain. Let's set the context: United is playing some "unknown quantity" (my Dad's favorite expression for any team that is not Top 5) and they are level at 2-2. The 90th minute mark hits and United fans around the world hold their breaths... and that elusive 5+ extra time is given. AKA - all in unison - Fergie Time. All of a sudden, you look at the opponents and see it in their eyes, in their hesitant movements: they have become jittery, unsure how to defend against such dominant pressure applied by United... and that's when the magic happens. The winning goal.
See, the moment you know there is so little time left, and you throw everything you have and give it your all? That is how my team inspires me. I have boasted time and time again, my love for United goes beyond the four corners of a pitch. It extends to the mentality Ferguson has instilled in every player to proudly wear a United shirt. No matter how bad our team plays (and let's be honest, this season has hardly showcased as our most prolific yet) - I know I can always count on them to push the opposing team until the dying moments of the game. So as United have taught me, year after year: when those competing against you are fatigued and running out of steam... keep pressing until that very second the whistle is blown.
That's how you win.
