After a tantalizingly short but sweet sejours in the motherland (God bless +30C weather, sandy beaches, and amazing friends)... my adopted home has slyly beckoned me back with the sweet lure of chai tea lattes and crisp Autumn evenings. It really was the perfect summer... and minus the record-breaking mosquito bites my body withstood - I wouldn't change a thing. So as the Premier League gears up to return to screens (withdrawals had me itching by July... or maybe that was the mosquito bites? I really just don't know anymore...) I'm anxious for Round 20 (read: 19-titles-ain't-nothing-but-a-G-thaaang). Frankly, I'm ready to bury a summer of unnecessary DRAMA. Injuction schmujunction. I just want my boys back out there. Being players ON the pitch as opposed to off of it. Sparking life into my Saturday mornings as the rest of the world lays peacefully asleep, and I consume questionable amounts of caffeine in the hopes of surviving the full 90 minutes.
Its been a slow summer blogging... but with beaches no longer in such close proximity, I know my habits are about to change. With a wave of new players yet to be scrutinized and awaiting our seals of approval, we all know every fan is spurred on to believe this is THEIR year, the year we all knock Barcelona off that bloody Catalan perch. The year that highly rated overpaid newest acquisition will make THE difference. So... on behalf of all those whose weekend dynamics are about to drastically change ("Sorry Mum... can you call me back at halftime?! I'm not really listening") - I sincerely apologize to those who will have to, once again, deal with a flurry of football status updates, heated facebook debates, and twitter breaking news in 140 characters or less (ie. OMG ROONEY IS AMAZING. #UHMAZING). I know it's not easy dealing with us football loonies, but like I long ago expressed, loving football is like being in a relationship. You don't always understand the passion looking from the outside in. But for those of us on the inside looking out? We only see what you're missing...
So here's to the next chapter in my life, once again aptly kicking off a new season on a different continent, chasing a different dream. But one thing that'll never change? Here's to another season as Mrs. Manchester United. Because no matter how many times they sleep around with Champions League final losses. . . I'll always stick around.
Loyalty... It's a beautiful yet silly, silly, thing, isn't it?
